Great Post. I actually learned a lot. I am extremely pumped about just typing 'cd' without the '~' and 'cd -'.

I use bash scripts to launch convoluted terminal programs like iftop, and apachetop to monitor my web server. It saves me from having to remember application variables like "-i en1", or more importantly where they are placed in the launch string. Its just a small thing but you only write a script once , where as launching an app with directory specific variables can be tedious to say the least.

I love your mantra of reducing typing! I find that the TAB key in bash works wonders as well for completing paths. I also use character classes quite a bit when specifying filenames - 'cp img_7[0-5]* vacation' or something like that... I didn't see you mention these, but I like them quite a bit.
