Good article. I gave SCJP and SCWCD exam 3 years back and was thinking to brush up on them. But did not want to go through SCWCD as it had lot of annoying JSP details that are hardly used. Now I can focus on few topics you mentioned like Listeners, Security and Session management.

Thanks,
Badal

Hello Eric,
Congrats!!
Many thanks for sharing your experience at both SCJP and SCWCD.I am basically from non-Java field , but interested in Java. Yesterday , I passed SCJP 5 with 80%.What next certification I need to take? Could you please suggest me how I can go about finding some jobs in Java development.What is the best way to prepare myself for Java-jobs , how can I impress the interviewer with Java skills etc...

you can mail your tips/suggestions to my mail id: rajeshwari_vaddatti@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance.

I think you mean CCNA instead of CCNN. I got mine in high school and it did not help me at all with programming.

Not sure what kind of help you want, just ask and I'll see if I can. Good luck!

@Mark:

Yes, I did mean ~2 hours per day for a month. If you are planning to have much more time to study, I think 4-5 hrs/day for 2 weeks should set you up for the SCWCD. Good luck!

Just wondered, when you say you should study for 'a month', does this mean, while doing a full-time job, ie, 2 or 3 hours per day for a month? I'm not currently working so I plan to study for the SCJP and SCWCD and have a few years experience, so just wondered how long I should give myself based on that?
