I'm sure its a good tool for some people, but I've tried *REALLY* hard to like Twitter, but I can't. There are too many people out there that abuse it.

If you are a well-known developer, then I don't want to hear about your political views or what you are cooking for dinner. I don't even care that your flight was late. I'm sorry if that sounds uncaring and cruel, but I have too many of my own personal issues to worry about. Just tweet some cool programming trick. Thats all!

Don't feel bad twitterers. I hate Facebook too. With its horrible user interface, terrible ads and constant reminders that all the people I went to highschool with spend WAAAY to much time building the imaginary farms.

I guess I'm old fashioned. Give me a good blog over all this new crap any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

BTW Eric,... I love your Testimonial. LOL.

I know! Although I was worried about security from linking all my accounts, I thought SocialThing was a great idea! I hear they're working on a complete re-write right now for scalability.

Identi.ca and several other microblogging platforms are sort of floundering. Twitter is the place to be hands down.

Socialthing has lost my interest being they are no longer maintaining their current version. I changed my passwords on twitter and facebook and socialthing hasn't worked for me since which is really a shame becuase I LOVE LOVE LOVED socialthing.

I have definitely found that twitter has helped me connect with programmers.

Another way of keeping up on trends is to add a feed for search.twitter.com keywords. But be careful as you might get overwhelmed as you said.
